Step Into
Sport
Over
the last few years the Step Into Sport
programme is part of the Governments PE and
Sport Strategy for Young People and has been
a great success here at Northallerton
College. The programme is funded by the
Department of Culture, Media and Sport
(DCMS)
and focuses on young people aged 14 to 19,
giving them opportunities to become involved
in sports leadership, volunteering, coaching
and then encouraging them to continue this
into later life.
Many of our students have
found the experience challenging, enjoyable
and valuable. Jenny Woods one of our
students who has just completed her year on
the programme mentions 'that it gives you a
chance to get involved in many different
events and gain experience in coaching and
officiating, its great fun and you also
achieve something worthwhile at the end'.
Student Council

"Student Council is at the heart
of everything which goes on within the
college. It organises major events within
the college, raises money for charities on a
local and national level, as well as looking
at ways in which the college can be further
improved for the students. Student Council
is brought in and consulted upon over a wide
range of issues and ideas which come up
throughout the school year, from the new
house system
to the brand new lecture theatre. It
provides students with the chance to get in
contact with, and talk to people from all
around the local community.
Student Council gives any individual the
chance to have their say on any matter they
wish, and discuss any possible solutions
they may have. It is an exciting and
interesting group to be a part of, as you
never know what's around the corner, and it
is a real team effort, which shows you are
willing
to go the extra mile. The satisfaction
gained from your ideas raising hundreds of
pounds for charity and seeing the whole
college enjoying themselves at the Summer
Fete makes it a totally worthwhile group to
be a part of. Anyone can be involved, we
regularly have a member of the Dales School
sit on the council, as well as running
monthly meetings where the entire college is
invited to attend. It is informal, fun,
diverse and richly rewarding."
