Assessment
GCSE (OCR) Syllabus A (first teaching from September 2010).
Students will be entered for 3 Module Exams
that comprise the 'full' GCSE at Foundation
or Higher Tier The grades
available are as
follows:
Foundation
U, G, F,
E, D, C
Higher D,
C, B, A, A*
Students sit three units over 2 years;
Module A, B and C. These will be sat as follows:
-
Module A - Most probably in June of Year
9 whilst at Allertonshire School*
-
Module B - June of Year 10
-
Module C - June of Year 11
*Potential resits OR opportunity to sit
higher level June Year 11.
Students can sit different Tiers at each
module, for instance sit Foundation Tier
for Module A, then Higher Tier for
Modules, B, C the grade awarded is based
on the total score from the three
modules.
If circumstances dictate, i.e. a student
joins The College late, then they can be
entered for a GCSE that is sat through
two papers in June of Year 11.
Some students may sit a ‘full’ GCSE in
Year 10 and then aim to improve this
grade in Year 11. This would
particularly involve students who we
predict would be on the D/C borderline.
Progression
Success in this subject at a Grade C or
above allows students to progress to
Sixth Form or many Level 3 courses at FE
College. In order to progress to A level
Mathematics the student, realistically,
would need to achieve a good B or
better.
