Main Topics

The course aims to prepare students for progression to employment and/or further training in the health, social care and early years sector. This is not a specialist childcare course but covers all client groups.

The course is taught in two units which include:

Unit 1: Understanding Personal Development and
             Relationships.
Unit 2: Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision.

In addition, students will be able to develop and generate evidence on some aspects of the key skills of communication and information technology, working with others and improving own learning and
performance.

Students will need to complete many pieces of project work. High levels of motivation and good time management skills will be required. As the subject is almost entirely coursework based, good
attendance is vital.

Assessment

Completed successfully, the Qualification is worth one GCSE at grades A* - G. The course is assessed in two ways:

Portfolio of coursework – internally assessed worth 60% of the marks
Two externally assessed examinations – worth 40% of the marks

Progression

This course is an ideal introduction to the Health and Social Care Applied ‘A’ level or the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education. It is also a useful starting point for careers in the caring services.
The qualification is accepted by universities and employers.
