Ofsted Report

All students who achieve grade ‘C’ or above in Year 10 go on to study one of these subjects in Year 11

The IGCSE is an internationally recognised qualification which has recently been made available to state secondary schools as an alternative to the GCSE. We feel that it allows our students to develop skills acquired through their study of GCSE English and prepares them for further study, whether in English or elsewhere.

Students will study at least one drama text, a collection of poetry, and one prose text. These will be chosen from a prescribed list that covers a wide range of English Literature.

ASSESSMENT

2 Terminal Examination
75% - an open book examination – prose, drama, poetry.

Unseen paper
25% - choice of a prose extract or poem

There is no tiered entry for this specification.

Progression

Success in this subject allows students to progress on to Sixth Form ‘A’ level, Applied ‘A’ level, or other Level 3 courses at Northallerton College, or elsewhere. Many of our students progress to take the subject in higher education.
