Main Topics
There are six D & T courses available. Four
of these courses share similarities and the
other two courses are vocational courses in
Engineering (Double Award) Catering (Single
Award). All subjects involve various
opportunities in designing, making and
evaluating. The differences lie in the
materials employed to make the products.
Design and Technology courses available:
Graphic Products: Design and make a
variety of Graphic products using various
2D, 3D and computer aided design techniques.
Food Technology: Developing an
understanding of the working characteristics
of ingredients whilst designing and making
food products.
Textiles Technology: The use of
textile materials to design and make fashion
and furnishing products.
Resistant Materials: Design and make
resistant materials for domestic and
commercial situations using woods, metals
and plastics.

Please consider very carefully before opting
for one of the Technology courses. Remember,
all courses explained above are equally
appropriate for both male and female
students.

Design and make project. 60%
End of course examination 40%
Progression
Success in this subject allows students to
progress onto Sixth Form ‘A’ level or
Applied ‘A’ level courses at Northallerton
College, and to achieve good results through
these courses. Many of our students
progress to take the subject further in
higher education.
