Thomas Spears - Resistant Materials

"I studied Engineering at GCSE so AS Resistant Materials seemed like a good option to take. The AS year of Resistant Materials was really enjoyable as the course is broken down into manageable chunks, where you’ll do a balanced mix of theory and practical. I’ve found the theory lessons are a great way to support your practical lessons and prepare you for the exam. I really enjoy the practical lessons as there’s a great atmosphere in the workshop and you’ve always got the right help when needed. There’s a great range of kit at college from basic hand tools to state of the art CNC machinery, all of which 6th form students are encouraged to use independently as part of your application. In the A2 year you’ll work as a commercial designer and do a whole project, where you’ll work closely with a client to produce a quality product. You’ll have priority in the workshop, which is really useful for hitting the deadlines which is essential due to the workload. In Resistant materials you’ll learn a vast variety of skills all of which will look great on any CV or UCAS
application.“
