Georgia Dearden - Applied Art and Design Double Award

"I chose to study Applied Art and Design at A level because I‘ve always had a passion for art. The course really prepares you for working in the art and design industry. The art department offers students a number of trips both for inspirational purposes and to give you an idea of what you might be doing after education. I would recommend the course to anyone with a passion for creativity. Applied Art and Design is a huge commitment so it’s essential you’re prepared to do the required work. We are given the opportunity to write our own briefs so we can choose something that will sustain our interest. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the first year of the course I’ve completed so far, and I’ve become aware of the standard/quantity of work it takes to get the grades you want. Throughout the two years you develop a range of skills including photography, life drawing, and anything else you want to study. What makes the applied course different from the Art and Design course is that it’s considered the equivalent of a Foundation Course, there’s more work, and it’s much less guided. This gives students the freedom to experiment in whatever genre of art they see fit, and therefore develop their individual skills as an artist.”
