Student Profiles

Clare Eames - English Language

“I chose to study English Language at A-Level because I enjoyed it at GCSE and achieved a good grade, and I also wanted to further my knowledge of the language. This subject allows you to improve both your analytical and creative skills and it is very enjoyable. At AS you learn about the language associated with gender, power and technology and how to categorise and analyse texts. You do two pieces of coursework, which can be about anything and in any style. This allows you to show a lot of creativity. At A2 you learn about language acquisition and language change and you do a coursework investigation on a particular subject involving language. The course is demanding but interesting and the teachers give you plenty of help while still letting you be independent and imaginative. I thoroughly enjoy studying English Language at Northallerton College and I would definitely recommend it to others.”
