Governor Profile

Robert Barker

Chairman of the Improvement Committee (Northallerton)
Chairman of the Joint Curriculum Committee
(with Governors of Allertonshire School)

Robert M Barker BEng(Hons), CEng, MICE, FCIHT

I have served as a School Governor since 1985, initially with the Thornton le Moor C of E Primary School, some 3 years as Chairman, and subsequently with South Otterington C of E Primary School, as its first Vice-Chairman. I was a Parent Governor at the Allertonshire School for several years, including a period as Chairman of the Finance Committee.

I have been a member of the Northallerton College Governing Body since 1997 and at various times I have held the posts of Vice-Chairman, Chairman of Personnel Committee and on the Federation Governing Body I am currently Chairman of the Improvement Committee (Northallerton).
I Chair the Joint Curriculum Committee with the Allertonshire School.

I am a Chartered Civil Engineer, employed by the Government to conduct public inquiries and hearings into planning appeals and into infrastructure proposals.

I have been married for over 40 years and my son (aged 30) and daughter (aged 28) both attended Northallerton College before going on to University.

It is my objective to ensure that the College maintains continued improvements to the already high standard of education that it offers to the young people of the area and that the transition from the Allertonshire School at age 14 is achieved successfully whilst maintaining the focus on excellent standards.
