Governor Profile

Andrew Smith

Parent Governor

Andrew D. Smith, Chairman of Resources Committee (Risedale)

I have served as a Parent Governor at Risedale since October 2009. On the Federation Governing Body, I am the present chair of the Risedale Resources Committee which has responsibility for financial matters, health and safety and premises. I serve on the Risedale Improvement Committee, with responsibility for College performance, and other Committees as necessary. I am also the Link Governor for Child Protection and Safeguarding and also Link Governor for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

I am originally from Hertfordshire. I was educated at The Nobel School in Stevenage and I left with 13 GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ level passes. I went to work in construction on leaving school and was involved with both practical construction and Building Design and Regulation and I was particularly interested in sustainability and energy management systems. I moved to North Yorkshire in 1992 and married Rosie in 1995. Ethan was born in 1998 and he is in Year 8 at Risedale. Our daughter, Abigail, is in Year 3 at Colburn Primary School where Rosie is training to be a Teaching Assistant. My wife, Rosie, and her two brothers are past students of Risedale. Presently, I have my own cleaning business working across the Dales.

My interests include reading, camping, fellwalking and cycling. My extended family are all Jehovah’s Witnesses so we spend time each week on religious activities. I have found my time spent as a Governor very rewarding. I enjoy spending time in College talking to the students and observing their learning. I know firsthand how hard our staff are working to help our young people reach their potential and it is good to be able to support them.
