Brief Outline
Sociology is a
thought provoking subject where students
investigate and evaluate the world in which
we live. Sociology considers factors which
affect our daily life, such as the Family
and Crime and Deviance. Sociology develops
core transferable skills such as
communication, analysis and evaluation.
Methods of Teaching
The focus is on using sociological theories
to analyse contemporary issues through the
medium of lectures, use of ICT, independent
study, investigation, discussion,
presentation, research.

What We Expect From You
Successful Sociology students must show an
enthusiasm for the subject, willingness to
research
independently and keep abreast of current
affairs. Students must be able to organise
their time well and have a passion for
reading. Students need a least a Grade B in
English at GCSE.
Future Prospects
Sociology teaches many skills valued by
employers and universities. Sociology leads
to careers in
research, teaching, social work, psychology,
crime investigation, business management and
numerous other careers.
