Brief Outline
Graphic Products is a popular course,
combining well with many other subjects
including Arts, ICT, Mathematics and Physics
courses. It includes many topics which were
first introduced at GCSE, but broadens and
develops students’ understanding to a much
greater depth. It also introduces a number
of new areas, and the work at A2 level is
significantly more challenging than at AS
level. Units include one coursework project
and one written examination per year. The
course has been designed to provide a wide
understanding of both the theoretical and
practical aspects of Graphic Products.
Methods of Teaching
The course will involve discussion,
independent study, practical work,
problem-solving, research activities,
outside speakers, visits, presentations,
interactive board work, virtual design and
videos/DVDs and use of the Virtual Learning
Environment.

What We Expect From You
Entry
requirements are at least Grade C in Graphic
Products, Engineering or Arts and a
commitment to learning and participating
positively in lessons. A self motivated
attitude to working outside of class time is
expected. Progress onto A2 will depend upon
a satisfactory result at AS and discussion
with subject/course leader.
Future Prospects
Combined
with ‘A’ levels in Mathematics and Physics
it is suited to Engineering, Architecture
and
Product Design degrees. Students who have
combined ‘A’ level Design and Technology
with other ‘A’ levels have gone on to
degrees and HND in Architecture, Computer
Studies, Business Studies,
Teaching, Civil Engineering and others
unconnected with Technology.
