Brief Outline
At A level, this Dance specification will
focus on the development and performance of
choreography and performing. Candidates will
receive training on technique and the health
and safety of the dancer. They will begin to
develop critical skills for the analysis of
choreography and performance within their
own work and in professional repertoire.
Candidates will develop knowledge and
understanding of a specific area of study
related to the development of one of the
following: modern dance, ballet, jazz dance.
Performance skills will be developed in
relation to one of the specific areas of
study.
Methods of Teaching
The course is predominantly practical in
nature. You will be involved in practical
work, independent study, problem solving,
research activities, visits and
presentations.

Unit 1 - Understanding Dance
Written Paper 60 Marks
Unit 2 - Choreography and Performance
Practical Coursework 90 Marks
Candidates answer two questions, one on solo
choreography and performance and one other
on performance in a duo/trio.

You will study
the new AQA Dance specification
Unit 3 - Appreciation: Content and Context
Written Paper 80 Marks
Candidates answer questions in two sections,
one on a chosen area of study within ballet,
modern dance or jazz dance and one other on
the set work studied.
Unit 4 - Group choreography and solo
performance
Practical Examination 75 Marks
What We Expect From You
Entry
requirements are that all students should
have prior GCSE Dance experience at B grade
or above or equivalent dance examination
qualifications.
Future Prospects
GCE Dance
is suitable for anyone wanting to pursue the
Arts or Dance or for any course requiring
good communication and group work skills. In
addition to performing, choreographing and
teaching, the course may lead to such
diverse careers as dance therapy or
journalism.
