Brief Outline
This modular course is structured to provide
students with the opportunity to gain a
first class qualification by the end of Year
13. All students irrespective of whether
they have taken GSCE Business Studies can
apply to take this subject provided that
they have a strong profile of GCSE results.
The delivery of the subject requires close
links with the world of business and
students need to develop an understanding of
how businesses work.
Methods of Teaching
A
variety of teaching and learning methods
include lectures, practical exercises,
independent study and simulations. Where
possible we will seek to involve the world
of business, inviting people from business
to help bring their experience into the
classroom.
Assessment
AS
Two units are
delivered throughout the year, ‘An
Introduction to Business’ is examined in
January and ‘Business Functions’ in June.
A2
Two further units are delivered, one
examined in January, and the other in June.
In January students have a choice between
Marketing, Accounting, People and
Production. The Unit in June is ‘Strategic
Management’.
What We Expect From You
We expect our students to show an interest
in and enthusiasm for the subject. Students
will need to develop research and self-study
skills and to keep in tune with
developments. No prior knowledge of the
subject is required. However, students
should have a strong GCSE profile and where
the subject has been taken at GCSE level, a
Grade B is desirable.
Future Prospects
The subject combines well with both Arts and
Science subjects. Students can progress into
higher education to study a wide variety of
courses available nationwide.
